The individual administers archive of historical studio papers at the USC Warner Bros. Archives. Provides services to academic researchers and studio clients. Selects, tracks, rehouses, and scans materials as needed.
Job Accountabilities:
* Provides services for patrons of educational, instructional and/or reference materials collection(s). Advises on use of collection, assists with completion of material request forms (if applicable), locates and retrieves requested items, counts and logs materials, delivers to patron, checks in returned items and reshelves in proper location. Supervises photocopying or makes photocopies, as appropriate.
* Inventories collection to ensure proper maintenance. Uses accepted methods of protecting and preserving delicate documents.
* Provides leadership and guidance to other employees and/or student workers performing similar work within unit, as assigned.
* Answers telephone requests for information concerning the collection.
* Tracks researcher requests and search results in a database system.
* Assists with research and production for exhibitions.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience with specialized knowledge pertinent to materials in collection(s). Combined education/experience may substitute for minimum education or experience.
This position requires climbing ladders and exerting up to 60 pounds of force to lift, carry, push or pull objects.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree with 3 years experience; expertise as a special collections curator.
Coursework or one year experience working with archival photographs, studio production records, or music scores.

Summary
Pixar Animation Studios is seeking an Archives Technician for archival processing, holdings maintenance and administrative work in the Pixar Living Archives Department. Training and detailed instruction is provided, but preferred applicants will have education in Library Science, Archival Studies and/or Museum Studies. This is a 40-hour workweek for a 5-month temporary position.
Responsibilities
Technical Processing:
Assist in retrieval, organization, identification, and processing of records from the archives* processing backlog. Assist in preparation of inventories, collection guides and other basic finding aids.
Holdings Maintenance:
Maintain archival materials including artwork, sculptures, papers, photographs, and other non-traditional archival materials. Perform basic archival preservation utilizing such techniques as archival refoldering, reboxing, and sleeving of documents.
Administrative Support:
Provide general support to the archives team on such assignments as record pulls, re-files, loan of books and DVDs. Organize and maintain space, facilities and supplies. Also shares responsibility for courier trips to off-site storage locations.
Qualifications
Must have excellent organizational skills, high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and be able to work successfully with minimum supervision and with a wide range of people. Must have the ability to work under deadlines at variety of tasks. Experience in arrangement, description, and safe handling of archival material preferred. This position is geared especially for currently enrolled students in Library Science, Archival Studies, or Museum Studies programs. The Provincial Archives of Alberta is currently looking for an experienced Audiovisual Conservator to join the Access and Preservation Services team. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Access and Preservation Services and working closely with the Paper Conservator, Archivists and Archives Technicians, this position identifies and addresses preservation and conservation issues relating to the holdings of the Provincial Archives.
Using your solid grounding in conservation theory and material science you will identify and assess the condition of a variety of audiovisual media, including film, magnetic and digital media and photographic material.
Demonstrating your ability to work in a team and client-oriented environment, you will provide preservation services for audiovisual holdings at the Archives including analogue and digital formats. This includes but is not limited to stabilization and restoration treatments, reformatting, preventative preservation techniques, preservation survey and condition reports, and materials testing. You will also be involved in supervising interns, temporary staff, contractors and volunteers. Please note that incumbents must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications: Related degree and considerable related experience including preservation and conservation techniques in multiple media; familiarity with archival practices and procedures is required. Qualification in preservation and conservation treatments of archival records from a professionally recognized institution is mandatory. Supervisory experience is an asset. Experience with Microsoft Office is required. Experience with operating and maintaining audiovisual equipment (both current and obsolete) is an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.

Moving Image Archivist - Two Year Term Appointment
Enhances the access to existing collections and builds new collections of moving image material in the Rare Book Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (RBMSCL) and University Archives. Establishes and manages the archives of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, including acquisition and preservation of the award-winning films. Also assesses existing archival film, video, and related media and recommends options for preservation and access needs.
Responsibilities
• Works closely with appropriate staff and the RBMSCL Visual Materials Archivist to solicit and acquire the award-winning films of the annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival for accession and preservation work
• Identifies, negotiates, and facilitates preservation reformatting with potential vendors in cooperation with the Library Preservation Department. Determines what preservation masters and use copies are needed for RBMSCL.
• Assesses existing moving image holdings of the RBMSCL and University Archives; drafts preservation and access plans for these materials, including equipment and outsourcing recommendations; works closely with the Library Preservation Officer and serves as a resource for related Library collections and participates in relevant TRLN moving image initiatives.
• Works with Research Services staff and relevant academic departments to promote use of RBMSCL and University Archives moving image holdings.
• Collaborates with RBMSCL Collection Development and Technical Services staff on the acquisition and processing of moving image materials and drafts guidelines for staff to use for handling and review of moving image materials.
• Participates in the weekend and holiday rotation of RBMSCL public services.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education
Required: Advanced degree from ALA-accredited MLS program or in archives administration or in other relevant field.

Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic library special collections or archives; experience working with moving image reformatting vendors.

Job Requirements

Job Description

Vacancy Announcement: Moving Image Archivist
Position: Moving Image Archivist (Fixed Term Appointment) Available: June 1, 2007
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a collaborative, innovative and service-oriented individual to serve as Moving Image Archivist. This is a specially funded three-year position working with extensive archival moving image materials held by the University Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Working closely with staff in other library departments, the Moving Image Archivist will assess current holdings, process materials, and develop a sustainable plan for future collecting, preservation, and access. The Moving Image Archivist reports to the Sound and Image Librarian of the Manuscripts Department.
Responsibilities
The Moving Image Archivist will:
Conduct a preservation and access survey of the moving image holdings of the Special Collections, Media Resource Center, and other related holdings in the University Library.
Visit peer archival moving image collections (regional and national) to research collection, preservation, and access practices.
After reviewing trends in archives and consulting with staff and faculty, formulate with the Sound and Image Librarian and others, a practical and sustainable moving image materials collecting policy for Special Collections.
Recommend standards and priorities for providing access to and preserving moving-image collections.
Conduct archival arrangement and description of collections.
Survey UNC's audio-visual facilities and make long-term recommendations for access, work-flow, procedures, reformatting (in-house and out-sourcing), digitization standards, storage, supplies, and equipment.
Investigate fundraising sources and help apply for appropriate grants.
Hire, train and supervise graduate student research assistants.
Qualifications
Required:
A graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program or a Master's degree in film studies or a related field; knowledge of archival standards and best practices; knowledge of film and video preservation; strong oral and written communication skills and organizational skills; ability to work cooperatively with staff, faculty, and students at UNC-Chapel Hill and at other institutions; and commitment to service and to professional growth and development.

Under the supervision of the Reference Archivist, the Assistant Archivist for Visual Collections manages reference and other aspects relating to the vast collection of photographs, video tapes, and motion picture film at the Hoover Institution Archives. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Undergraduate degree in history, political science, or related field, and strong knowledge of 20^th century history. Experience in a photo or moving image archive, library, or similar organization. Knowledge of one or more foreign languages highly desirable. Ability to work independently, exercise considerable judgment, discretion, and initiative, interact with a diverse public, work collegially with supervisor, peers, and other staff, and exhibit understanding of importance of public service to both the Hoover Institution and outside clientele. Highly developed organizational skills, with great attention to detail, and ability to coordinate numerous activities. Ability to handle a high volume of requests under tight deadlines. Ability to coordinate information with researchers and donors, and to collaborate with Hoover Fellows, Stanford faculty, and distinguished visitors. Strong administrative aptitude with excellent record-keeping and computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and digital imaging software. Excellent communication skills, including spelling, grammar, and composition skills for reference correspondence and the drafting of grant proposals. Ability to lift 20 lbs. and to handle a fully loaded book truck.

The Media and Digital Assets Librarian serves the information needs of students and faculty working in the media arts, and assists users of digital art and design resources and related technologies. The librarian oversees development and maintenance of the media and visual resources collections and supervises staff in these areas. Project Cataloger: National Anthropological Archives, Smithsonian Institution
The Smithsonian Institution is offering a 12 month term contract for a project cataloger in the National Anthropological Archives. The contractor shall provide professional, technical, non-personal services to the Smithsonian Institution by creating MARC-formatted catalog records for unpublished manuscripts, sound recordings, and moving images relating to endangered languages. The NAA maintains accession records, stand-alone collection databases, finding aids and inventories for its archival collections. Contract assistance is sought to create item-level and collection-level catalog records, based on these original sources, in the Smithsonian Institution Research Information System (SIRIS), a automated library information system.
Required Qualifications: Prospective contractors should have an ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree; a minimum of 1-2 years of cataloguing experience and experience with automated library system software, preferably Dynix Horizon; and knowledge of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Rev. Ed., USMARC Format for Bibliographic Data, and Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS). Preference will be given to prospective contractors with experience cataloguing linguistic materials, sound recordings, and/or moving images.

The Newsfilm Library, University of South Carolina, seeks to hire a film-imaging specialist.
This one year, full time, grant funded position (no health insurance or retirement) will take charge of the library's new digital film initiatives and be the principal operator of the library's new datacine.
Currently, the library is engaged in a grant-funded project to digitize all of its World War II era film holdings and make them available online. At the heart of the project will be the University's evolving digital asset management system [DAM]. The successful candidate will also serve as a liaison between the library and the University1s computing services division to help facilitate the DAM1s implementation.
Summary of Qualifications:
* 5 or more years experience handling film in an archival setting (experience with nitrate film desirable but not required);
* 2 or more years experience in either photochemical film printing and processing or digital imaging of film elements; experience in both these areas desired;

Overview: Operating within the HBO Post Delivery Unit, the HBO Materials Archive houses a diverse and active collection of film, video and audio elements. This position will be responsible for assisting the Archive Managers with collections maintenance and the evaluation of legacy materials. Position will identify and evaluate materials, making recommendations regarding storage and preservation. Position will also be responsible for updating and detailing material records in our database.
Additional responsibilities include responding to time critical requests from multiple departments to locate, borrow and deliver HBO materials while ensuring proper utilization of these materials so as to protect them from piracy and improper handling. The position will assist the Archive Managers in prioritizing the workflow of additional archival staff and overseeing their work when necessary. Assistance with barcoding and creating new records will also be required.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a college degree in Media, Archiving, Library Science or related field. Minimum five years experience in similar position. The Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection Librarian/Archivist is responsible for the organization, inventory, and cataloging of the George Foster Peabody Awards Archive and other archival moving image and sound collections and provides research assistance for access to the Peabody and other archival collections. This position works closely with the Peabody Awards Office providing assistance with organizing the material for transfer to the Media Archives at the end of the yearly Awards cycle.

The Peabody Awards Collection is a radio and television collection with over 50,000 titles. Over 1000 entries are submitted each year which adds approximately 5000 individual items including entry forms and other entry ephemera to be sorted and processed. The School of Filmmaking at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts seeks a Senior Curator/Cinema Studies faculty member.
This position is responsible for the operation of a repository institution, including general and specific responsibilities to the artifacts, to donors/lenders, to users, to the general public and to posterity. He/she must follow the overarching collection management policy to ensure continuity into the future by preserving not only the artifact, but also the artifact’s greater context by documenting the entry of artifacts into the collection. He/she must also protect the collection already in custody through conservation efforts, preservation initiatives, de-accessioning and additional record keeping. He/she must further understand some of the ancillary issues relating to the stewardship of valuable artifacts, such as acquisition of and compliance with copyright; risk management and property insurance; lending, borrowing and shipping procedures; and donor tax issues. Furthermore, this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in film history, theory, and aesthetics and acting as an academic advisor.
Candidates should possess an MFA or MA with 18 credit hours in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, teaching and professional experience; a minimum of 5 years of professional archival experience is required; a film preservation certification is preferred.

Media Preservation Coordinator - Academic Professional

Position Available: March 16, 2007, (negotiable).The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) seeks applications for a Media Preservation Coordinator. The incumbent will provide a range of preservation and reformatting services for sound recordings, moving images, and photographic materials held primarily in the University Library’s special collections but also in general circulating collections. The Media Preservation Coordinator reports to the Head of Preservation and serves all of the University Libraries, coordinating media reformatting and preservation services. Collections to be served include the University Archives, Rare Book and Manuscript Library, smaller special collections based in several units across campus, and the general collections. This is a full-time, regular, academic professional position.
Responsibilities: This position plays a key role in preserving the University of Illinois Library’s valuable and unique collections by enhancing the University’s capacity to preserve recorded sound and video. The incumbent will report to the Head of Preservation and work closely with the Assistant University Archivist to establish and manage a program to identify, reformat, and provide access to valuable audiovisual/media collections that are currently found in a variety of fragile and semi-obsolete formats, including 16 and 35 mm film, acetate disk, and magnetic tape. The coordinator will assist archivists, subject librarians, and collection managers in identifying at-risk collections, will suggest appropriate reformatting options, and will direct the day-to-day operation of reformatting projects. Specific responsibilities will include:
* Systematically surveying collections and providing storage recommendations
* Researching reformatting options and preparing recommendations for specific collections or items
* Preparing estimates and developing project workflows
* Collating and preparing materials for conversion/reformatting
* Monitoring conversion quality
* Tracking expenditures of funds
* Assisting in the preparation of grant proposals
* Identifying vendors and completing RFPs for services
* Collaborating with other library personnel to develop appropriate access methods and tools for digitized collections.

The Library consists of more than forty departmental libraries that are located throughout campus and administratively organized into eight divisions. The Preservation Unit reports to the Associate University Librarian for Collections and works in tandem with the Conservation Unit. Formed in 2001, the Library’s Preservation and Conservation Program has developed rapidly to meet the needs of a collection rich in material resources. The Media Preservation Coordinator will provide new services for the University Libraries on behalf of the Preservation Unit. Qualifications: Required: A Bachelor’s degree. Training or experience in audio or audio-visual engineering, production, or preservation. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to meet production deadlines and goals. Ability to lift a 30 pound box to a height of 5 feet. Preferred: Graduate degree with training in preservation or audio-video production; supervisory experience; experience assessing and evaluating library or archival materials in order to develop and coordinate preservation projects; professional or pre-professional experience reformatting non-print items; demonstrated experience with analog media sources; experience contributing to grant applications; demonstrated ability to work with a diverse constituency of university personnel; demonstrated knowledge of metadata and cataloging standards; experience working with commercial service providers.
Salary and Rank: Salary and rank commensurate with credentials and experience. This is a full-time academic professional appointment.
Terms of Appointment: Twelve month appointment; 24 work days vacation per year; 11 paid holidays; 12 annual sick leave days (cumulative), plus an additional 13 days (non-cumulative) per year if necessary; health insurance, requiring a small co-payment, is provided to employee (coverage for dependents may be purchased); participation in State Universities Retirement System is required, includes several private options, is compulsory (8% of staff member’s salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination); newly hired university employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are subject to its deduction.
